I don't remember the moment of return. Back then I was already in Italy.

Axum is important for all Ethiopians, for all Africans. Because it is 2000 or 3000 years old. For all the Ethiopians, the moment of the return meant proudness. And as a consequence to the city there come many more tourists to visit.

For the people it didn’t change much. They had diplomatic agreements already with two governments before. The Italians always said that they are helping with hospitals and some universities.

But the leaders of Ethiopia, they said: “No. We want our obelisk back.”
